Definition
of Organization
Organization is the act
of setting out of the formal structure of authority and flow of work ii such a
way that the work in the various subdivisions, sections and branches is
carefully arranged, clearly defined and effectively coordinated in order to
accomplish the objectives of the organization or department.
DEFINITION
OF ORGANIZATIONAL CHART
Organizational Chart is
“a drawing that shows how the parts of an organization are linked". It
depicts the formal organizational relationship, areas of responsibility, to
whom one is accountable and the channel of communication" The chart
clearly shows the line and staff positions in an organization. Therefore for
proper management each primary health centre is supposed to have an
organizational chart.
CONCEPT
OF LINE AND STAFF POSITION:
In every organization,
the hierarchy of personnel that extends from the executives on top to the
workers at the bottom this is what is referred to as the line of the
organization.
The people in the line position produce the goods and services for which such an organization is known. The people in the line position are responsible for supervising and infact performing all the primary functions in an organization.

In the primary health
care centre, the personnel in the line positions include the community health
officer, who is usually the executive on the top, the community health
supervisors, the community health aides etc.
